The Great Barrier Reef has over 2.900 reefs and 900 islands and it is stretching over 2.600 kilometres over an area of 344.400 square kilometres. The reef is in the Coral Sea close to the coast of Queensland In north-east Australia. The Great Barrier Reef can be seen from outer space and is the world's biggest thing made by living organisms. The reef has been built by billions of organisms and the organism has the name coral polyps.

Many of the reefs are protected by the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park which help with keeping humans away from places where they can´t fish or if it is a forbidden place. A lot of people now the Great Barrier Reef and has been used by the Aboriginal Australia and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
